So after I limped the C4 through the trafficky morning commute entirely in third (after it stopped letting me shift into gear and I had to shove the lever with all my might (grimacing) before the shifter completely went), I obviously couldn't just throw it into gear and drive home in the afternoon. Luckily, Hagerty will cover any tow that's less than 10 miles; the mechanics are 6 miles away. The tow truck driver came and, because there are no tow hooks on an early C4, had to secure it by the control arms. He actually knew the suspension bits were forged aluminum, that it was a "uniframe" construction, and was able to figure everything out, so pretty cool. He had a 2015 F350 with the powerstroke and had just come from a '99 5 speed he put 580,000 miles on. He said he liked Manuél, in case you're wondering. He drove and I sat in the passenger seat as he had various interesting phone conversations and we finally got there and unloaded. It's a pleasant surprise to get a tow from a nice person. It's almost definitely an issue with the clutch install, so it will probably be remedied for free. The engine is running strong with new the fuel line and soon the transmission will be sorted—then it's on to installing a differential drain plug, changing the fluid, maybe getting air conditioning fixed, and it'll be good to go for a summer road trip.

(Also: paint, engine rebuild, suspension rebuild, and redoing the interior. And maybe even an oil change.)

How do you have no snow?!? Great to hear the C4 is doing good.

Glad you had a pleasant towing experience. The one time I had to tow my C4 (First day I got it, the fuel pump died), I got a complete idiot who towed mine. Tore off everything that was left of the original front spoiler and nearly dragged the front end on the ground. Gave absolutely zero fucks.

I've always been a fan of the C4. Good luck getting it fixed!

We don't usually get much snow here, but the ground is plenty white. That's all salt! Really just the icing on the cake that was this morning. That sounds like a nightmare, though. The guy had to put the cable under the spoiler, but it was flexible enough to not break. I don't like to call people out but it's just painful to watch your car be treated without any respect.

Glad the driver of the truck was careful!

Also hope that whatever went wrong with the clutch install ends up getting fixed, It's too bad that it had to happen that way. Buy Hey, Hopefully they'll take the blame.

Ah, gotcha. I'm just always surprised not to see snow in pictures at this time of year lol.

I cringed quite a lot. He did not have any care whatsoever. Mine was flexible too, but there was just too much force against it. The only reason I didn't call him out on it was because I was going to replace the spoiler anyways, since it had seen better days. If he would have dragged the front end, though, I would have been livid.

Thanks! Turned out that the shifter rod needed adjustment. Should be back on the road by Monday.

Thanks, yeah I was lucky with the driver. He made an adjustment to the shift rod, and says it shifts fine now. I know them very well and I'm sure they'll make it work properly.

Yeah, we did get some snow (under 4") but they decided to not not treat or plow streets, then not cancel schools, then have half the city get in car accidents, then dump a shitton of salt down after the fact. Finally, in preparation for freezing rain (it was 36F) they dumped even more salt. Unsurprisingly, there was just a ton of salt afterwards. My front spoiler is cracked and warped but that doesn't really present a problem and it's mostly unnoticeable, so I'll take care of more pressing issues first.

Ah, nice! That's what tends to happen near me. The crews around here are the same way; they don't take care of anything until after problems have occurred. Put that along with drivers who are completely oblivious to weather conditions, and you're gonna have a bad time.

Yeah, I gotcha. I only replaced mine because the entire center section was gone, and the left and right sides were very well worn. While it didn't affect anything, it was pretty noticeable. If you do ever replace yours, give yourself a decent window of time. It was a huge pain in the ass for me.
